This picture was taken on my front drive during a morning car washing. I chose this for my final images from various I'd taken as I felt it gave the best portrayal of how the mood was from my son at having to help. Setting the larger aperture helped to keep the middle ground in focus whilst putting the fore and background out of focus. Using the daylight only meant that I had plenty of light to adjust my controls to create the image I desired. As seen I have adjusted to black and white as I have with all of my portrait images and slightly cropped so as to loose the bottom of the car in the background.

So ok this was staged a little but it worked. To get this picture my son had to sit on a pair of step ladders which I'd been using to reach up to the apples from my tree. I got my little girl in turn to sit on the bottom step of the ladders to help keep them stable. This was taken from an angled shot from me sitting on the ground so as to get the trees branches and apples in the back ground. I used a fairly wide aperture to keep the main focus on my son leaving the background in a slight blur so not to distract from the main subject.
You can get the impression, if you use a little imagination that he's just perhaps jumped into a neighbours garden and has pinched his first apple of the year , something he's been looking forward to for a long time. I've only made black and white and cropped this picture a little.

This is not my son's favourite picture of himself but it is mine. A so enjoy the expression given to the viewer from his eyes , the message of wanting to be left alone to get on with his chore or that he really doesn't want to be doing this and is thinking up a plan of how to get out of it somehow. Again a wide aperture was used to make a soft focused background witch was also helped by using my telephoto lens. I'm particularly happy with this shot as I'd not had this new lens very long and wasn't using a tripod so was pleased I was able to get a clear crisp image. In post processing I have only converted to black and white and slightly raised the contrast.

And so to the first picture of my daughter , this was taken in a park near to where I live on a Sunday afternoon walk. I used a wide aperture as to keep her as the main focus , you can't tell what she's looking at of course but I'd wanted for her to try and portray a feeling of being fed up and longing to be else where , perhaps on a beach . In reality she was looking over Marston's Brewery. As again converted to B/W with only slight adjustments to contrast and brightness. I particularly like how her white leggings stand out in the picture giving a feeling of her not caring about what other people may feel about her dress sense as she's very happy how she looks.

This was taken on the same day as the earlier picture of my son eating an apple. This was the first apple she'd picked so was keen to show me. I used single point autofocus on my camera with a wide aperture to help keep only the apple in focus. I love my daughter's expression to me it gives off a feeling of achievement. I like how this shot is composed , with the apple in the foreground but next to her head with no overlap to her face. It doesn't quite stick to the rule of thirds but with portraits I found this very difficult but this picture works for me.Converted to B/W and cropped only.

This was quite a dull day so with not wanting to use a higher ISO I instead used a slower shutter speed. I used my tripod to help minimise any blur and was lucky enough to do so .With the back ground not being to deep was able to use f8 to help keep all the picture in focus. Her expression is easy to portray, one of , this is my patch keep out. This was helped by keeping a low level so she's slightly looking
down on you.On this occasion again only the conversion to B/W was and cropping was needed.

This is by far my favourite of all my portrait pictures. It was taken at the an

Adventure farm very near to my house. We'd just had a picnic and my daughter was a little cold so zipped up and put her hood up. Her expression is one of contempt, as I'd been taken pictures of her for about an hour and she was getting quite , well very bored of me. The conversion to black and white really helps the on looker to be drawn to her eyes and also with it being cropped brings you right into her world.
